Welcome to Baotic – Baobab Super-fruit Infusion

Baotic is a unique and innovative functional health drink developed by co-founders Paul Blackler and Isatou Njai in the UK, through their love of The Gambia, Africa and the world. Having dreamt up the concept as early as 2008 after meeting in The Gambia through Voluntary Services Overseas (VSO), the stars finally aligned and they came to launch a start-up in 2016.

Isatou pitched and the business was accepted into Entrepreneurial Spark, Glasgow Hatchery and the co-founders became ‘chicklets’.

Hippo and Hedgehog ltd was launched, tailoring African ingredients to the UK taste bud. With a mission to share the vibrancy of Africa through Healthy, Happy and Helpful innovations.

Baobab… its all about the Super-Fruit

Baobab is a highly unique and natural dry super-fruit that grows across different parts of Africa. The Baobab tree is said to be one of the oldest trees in the world, some dating back thousands of years. It is referred to as the tree of life, or the upside down tree. The tree lives deep in tradition and culture and represent strength and wisdom… it was the Home to Rafiki, the wise old monkey in Disney’s lion King.

The fruit itself has been enjoyed throughout the millennia for its unique sherbety taste.

Baobab packs a mouthful of flavours as vibrant as the African culture itself. More than this, within many African societies it is taken by children, adults, pregnant women and the elderly for its traditionally known health properties.

Across these many different African cultures it has always been believed the fruit it rich in goodness and can settle the stomach, relieve diarrhoea and constipation, and give energy and strength. Specifically taken by young children, pregnant women and the elderly for these reasons, it has also formed part of the natural diet.

More recent scientific research has uncovered more truths about Baobab…

  1. More Vitamin C than Orange – Great for the skin
  2. More Antioxidants than blueberries – Great for fighting disease
  3. High in Fibre (Soluble and Insoluble) – Great for the Gut
  4. More Calcium than Milk – Great for the bones
  5. More Iron than Spinach – Great for Popeye

Drink Baotic follows a minimal and natural process.

Health & Nutrition in Rural Gambia

Having fundraised and lead a number of community development projects since 2008, in The Gambia, specifically in supporting female co-operatives to launch vegetable gardens, the co-founders commitment is that Drink Baotic will also offer 10% of profits to support.

    Hi Paul and Isatou,
I am so excited to read about your new health drink.
Colin (my husband) is very impressed. He is a runner and a member of Skegness and District Running Club.
We attend a local Community Gym called The Hub and they have a healthy café in the building. I am very friendly with Debbie and Merv who own it.
My question is how much does it retail for?
I am going to tell them about your drink.
    Kind Regards
    Ena xxx

    • Thank You Ena. Very Kind!
We will drop you an email and we will be happy to discuss more, and work with your friends in any way that we can. We love an opportunity to learn and grow 🙂

I find this fascinating and would love to have the opportunity to taste Baobab – can you tell me where I can buy it?

    • Hi Kate,
Thanks for stopping by and taking the time to say Hello. We currently have a soft launch selling at Glasgow farmers markets as well as attending local and regional events such as The Royal Highland Show, Merchant City Festival, and Loch Lomond Food and Drink Festival. We would be happy to find a way to get some to you to try?

Was excited to see you at a pitch inside Glasgow Caledonian University and to learn about your new drink and its goodness. I think super baobab infusion is a brilliant idea.
    Good luck!
